I graduated with a PhD in Plant Pathology from China Agricultural University, where my research was mainly focused on the spatial epidemiology of rice blast, including developing a model for rice blast forecasting. As a postdoc in the Phylodynamics Research Group, I developed a new recombination-aware phylogeographic and demographic inference approach we call the structured coalescence with ancestral recombination (SCAR). These methods have been used to track the spread of the fungal pathogen Aspergillus flavus through complex landscapes as part of a USDA NIFA supported project and we are currently applying these methods to other pathosystems.
